Restrictions

The processing of float objects is subject to the following restrictions:

Images Yes Standalone images (images not within a table cell or box or text paragraph) may be automatically scaled to ensure that the float fits within a data column.
Tables Yes Tables may split at row boundaries but not within rows. Table headers will be honoured if the float is split.

Bindings No A float cannot set a binding to, or be bound with, any other page object (including another float).
Embedded floats No A float cannot be embedded within another float.
Notes No A float cannot declare column footnotes, page footnotes, or sidenotes.
Running Heads No A float cannot declare or cancel a running head.
Telltales No A float cannot declare or cancel a data telltale.

Maximum column float depth

The maximum depth of a column float is defined as the maximum depth of all data blocks in the page type in force when the float is defined.

In the case where the current and followed by page types are different, the maximum depth of a column float is defined as the minimum of:

  • the maximum depth of all data blocks in the current page type, and

  • the maximum depth of all data blocks in the followed by page type
