The blank Page Type

The page type named blank in the layout (if it exists) is used for “blank” left pages when a mapping forces content to a right page. It is only blank in the sense that it doesn’t contain any data; it can still contain content in fixed blocks.

Use the blank page type to control the appearance of blank left pages. If you want the page to be truly empty, remove any fixed blocks or fixed rules. It isn't possible to remove the data blocks, but this doesn't matter because the page will have no data when it is blank (the page type could be called explicitly by a mapping, in which case the data blocks are required).

You may wish to add a fixed block to display a message such as “This page is intentionally blank” at an appropriate position on the page.
